The Nazi Holocaust Initially coined to indicate the systematic extermination of 6 million Jews by the Nazis (the Shoah of the Jewish people), to describe the systematic genocide resulting from Nazi racial policies which, in addition to the Jews, also affected other ethnic groups, such as the Roma and Sinti peoples (the so-called Gypsies) or the Slavic populations of the Soviet Union and Poland (considered collectively Untermenschen), as well as other groups of dissidents, opponents, and minorities considered "undesirable" or in any case not assimilable to the new world order promoted by Nazism, such as the disabled, the mentally ill, homosexuals, communists, Freemasons, Pentecostals, Jehovah's Witnesses, etc.[20] Adding these groups, the total number of Holocaust victims is estimated at between 15 and 17 million, including civilians and prisoners of war.
